2008/2009

- Pack 874 sponsors family camping trips. Parents, guardians, and siblings are all welcome to camp with us. (The one exception is our winter camping weekend at Broadcreek, where we camp in cabins with limited numbers of bunks.)
- Camping fees are due to the Outing Coordinator no later than the Monday before each camping trip. These fees tell us the number of adults and children attending, and are used for planning meals and purchasing food.
- Because this is family camping, we encourage families to set up their tents near families from any of our dens. Camping is a great opportunity to get to know different families from the Pack.
- Some activities over a camping weekend will be Pack activities (for example, a service project or Scout's Own), other activities may be single den activities, other activities may be multi-den activities, and still others may be family activities. All families and scouts are encouraged to participate.
- Please consult the list of recommended camping supplies. Even if the weather looks favorable, we recommend rain or snow gear. We are the Rainmakers, after all!
- Firewood brought from home is banned from all Maryland Department of Natural Resources Owned and Managed properties. Please do not bring your own firewood to these locations.
- Electronic games are not allowed.
- Each family is responsible for bringing plates, cups and eating utensils. We highly discourage the use of disposable tableware.
- The Pack will provide and cook all meals, including Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner, and Sunday breakfast. Snacks will also be provided. Adult Leaders are responsible for the cooking, but we encourage all parents to offer to help. The campsite kitchen is a great place for parents to get to know each other better. If anyone in your family has special dietary needs or restrictions, please let one of the Pack's Leaders know.
- Friday dinner is usually served between 6:00 and 7:00. If you plan to arrive at the campsite after 8:00, please arrange for your own dinner.
- A weekend agenda and duty roster will be posted in the campsite kitchen area. The boys are responsible for dish duty according to the duty roster. Parents are asked to supervise and, as necessary, assist their boys when it is their turn to wash dishes.
- Saturday will likely include a Pack activity, den activities, and free time for hiking, fishing, biking, or other activities available at the campsite.
- Sunday morning, we will serve breakfast at about 8:00, and will break down the campsite by 10:00. We ask all parents to participate in the breakdown of the campsite. When we are close to finished with the breakdown, our Cubmaster and other Leaders will take all the boys for Scout's Own. Following Scout's Own, the boys will conduct a Leave No Trace sweep of the campsite to ensure that we are leaving it as we found it (or better).
- Once the boys have completed the Leave No Trace sweep, all families are free to leave. Many of our Pack's families will stay for other activities and return home later in the day.
- Boy Scouts of America prohibits smoking at the campsite or in front of the boys.
- Boy Scouts of America prohibits the consumption of alcohol while camping with the boys. This applies to all those who camp with us.
- Refunds for camping fees will be given only if the Pack cancels the camping weekend.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Outing Coordinator.
